    Moodle | Regrade a Quiz

Edit questions used in a graded quiz or throw out a question.

There may be a time when students have completed a quiz/exam and you have discovered a problem with a question in the exam or the exam total points. Possible scenarios might be:

    • Decide to throw out a poor question and not count it.
    • Discover the answer specified as correct in the quiz question is actually wrong. You want to correct the error and regrade the exam.
    • Discover that a short-answer question is not automatically grading the answer correctly because some students have used capital letters while other have not.
    • Missed changing the value of a question from the Moodle default of 1 pt and you want that question to be worth more points.
    • Want the quiz total score to be X points instead of the Y points as it was originally set.

Moodle will allow you to make these types of changes to a quiz question or exam and then run a re-grading of the exam. You will get a warning that the quiz already has attempts, but you can still change the value of the questions or quiz and the correct choice. However, you CANNOT delete any questions or modify the number of choices within a question once the quiz has been taken.

Use one of the following options to fix the problem with the quiz:

    Mark all choices as correct

Probably the best suggestion: Mark all possible choices as correct. This will work with Multiple Choice questions but not True/False questions. Net result will be that all student get credit for any answer and the maximum score of the quiz stays the same.

    1. On the course homepage, click the link for the quiz.
    2. Go to the Administration block and click Edit Quiz.
    3. Find the question and click the Edit icon (a gear).
    4. Mark all MC answers as 100%.
    5. Choose SaveThe Editing Quiz page appears.
The exam will still include the question’s points without penalizing students.
    6. Update the exam scores.
      • Go to the Quiz Administration block and click Results, then Grades.
      • Click Regrade AllThe Regrading attempt page appears.
      • Click Continue. Updated scores are sent to the Gradebook.

Change the score of a question or an exam

    • Change the question point value to zero but leave the overall quiz score the same. Moodle distribute the points for the [bad] question among the remaining question values. This helps with correct answers and hurts with incorrect ones. OR
    • Change the question point value to zero and lower the quiz maximum points the same amount as the [bad] question. This may affect the grade book total you were expecting to accomplish as well slightly affect a category weighting.
    1. On the course homepage, click the link for the quiz.
